Homeschool team finishes with flourish

The State Line Rush went 8-1 in nine days to win one tournament and place second in another.

 LYNCHBURG –– The State Line Rush homeschool girls’ basketball team concluded its inaugural season with a 21-14 record, earning a championship and a runner-up finish in its final two tournaments of the year.

The Rush won the East Tennessee Ladies’ Classic in Kingsport, Tenn., on March 12. Six teams competed in the double-elimination tournament with the Rush opening play with a pair of wins on March 11, defeating the Lighthouse Eagles of Kingsport 37-22 and Titan Teamsport of Bristol 40-7 in the early rounds.

The team defended its top seeding on Saturday by defeating the KACHEA Wildcats 33-27 in the third round. The Rush downed the Wildcats once again in Saturday’s championship game 35-13 to sweep the tournament.

Audrey Clark, Rachel Clark, Kate Clark and Daisy Clark were all named to the all-tournament team, and Daisy Clark was voted the tournament’s MVP.

Playing in its second tournament in less than seven days, the Rush finished as the runner-up in the East Coast Homeschool JV Tournament at Liberty University. The team cruised through pool play with a 4-0 record, notching wins over the Lighthouse Eagles (30-7) and Albemarle (28-16) on March 16. The tournament’s second day saw State Line topple Titan Teamsport in overtime, 34-32, and follow with a 30-22 win over Lighthouse.

Advancing to the tournament finals in the Vines Center, State Line came up short in its bid for a second championship in a week, losing 19-13 to Albemarle.

Team members are Victoria Bartlett, Rachel Bennett, Rebekah Bennett, Audrey Clark, Daisy Clark, Kate Clark, Nancy Clark, Rachel Clark and Bryanna Lindberg, and team manager is Elijah Lindberg.

Rachel Clark, Kate Clark and Daisy Clark were all-tournament selections for the Rush. 

The team is coached by Larry Clark and Ruth Bennett.
