Hillsville woman, daughter injured in I-81 crash

A two-vehicle crash caused injuries to a local woman and her daughter and resulted in a two-mile backup on Interstate 81 on Monday morning, Virginia State Police Sgt. Rob Carpentieri said.
Sharon Shafer, 54, of Hillsville was driving a Ford Explorer in the northbound right lane and attempted to switch lanes, Carpentieri said. In the process, she struck a Hyundai Sonata in her blind spot, causing both to run off the road, overturn and strike an embankment near mile marker 109, Carpentieri said.
