HILLSVILLE — Officials have consulted their videotape to see if anybody recognizes the individual who vandalized Hillsville Town Hall early Saturday morning.
At about 3;21 a.m. Saturday, a man went into an unlocked door on the north side of town hall, according to Town Manager Larry South. This area is left unlocked because it houses various brochures for visitor information and contains the night deposit box for bill payment.
The subject threw some of the brochures around and broke some glass on the rack.
The video shows that the subject stayed inside for a little more than four minutes.
"Our damage was minimal here at town hall," he said. "There was just a mess we needed to clean up."
South estimated the damage at about $250, which included the labor to straighten up.
The visitors center was closed for the rest of the weekend after the vandalism occurred.
South deferred to the police department about whether break-ins from businesses from the same morning were related.
The Hillsville Police Department is looking at potential suspects and the incidents were still under investigation Monday, said Hillsville Police Chief Steve Williams.
The break-ins were reported at Dana's and at the pet shop, all on Main Street.
There's a good chance that the same subject was involved in those break-ins, too.
"We don't have anything that definitively ties them together, but we feel pretty confident it was the same person," Williams said.
The chief described damage at all three places as being minor. Some property was taken from Dana's.
