HILLSVILLE — Town council members emerged from a closed session at their meeting Monday evening and announced they would make an offer to a town manager candidate.
They did not release the name of the candidate, pending his acceptance of the position.
"We had a great pool of candidates for town manager," Mayor Greg Crowder said. "We have narrowed it down to one, unanimously, we're very happy to go forward with…"
Town officials will contact the candidate about his availability and when and if he can start, the mayor said.
After the council meeting, council members said they intend to give the candidate 48 hours to respond, so it might be Wednesday or after by the time they hear back.
Hillsville has been without a town manager since June, when the former official, Larry South, decided to resign in the face of the changing make up of town council.
