Hillsville man killed in Wythe County crash
It happened Tuesday at Interstate 77's 44 mile marker.
WYTHEVILLE — A 56-year-old Hillsville man was pronounced dead at the scene of a Tuesday accident involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 77 in Wythe County.
A Virginia State Police report identified the victim as John Schrader.
Schrader, driving a 2012 Chevy Sonic, had been driving south on I-77 at the 44 mile marker at about 6:49 p.m.
At that time, an unnamed driver of a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer heading north bound was attempting to use the emergency vehicle crossover.
The Chevy struck the tractor trailer as it pulled to the right of the south bound lanes.
The name of the tractor-trailer driver has not been released yet. Authorities say charges are pending.
