Hillsville man charged in Roanoke bank robbery

ROANOKE — A 36-year-old Hillsville man has been charged by Roanoke police in connection with a bank robbery on Tuesday.
A news release from the police department identifies the man as Richard Wilson Garrett.
Authorities arrested Garrett on Wednesday after he turned himself in to police in Roanoke.
Officers responded June 21 at 5:01 p.m. to the BB&T Bank located in the 1200 block of Colonial Avenue, according to information from the police. “The suspect entered the bank, handed the teller a note and received an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot.”
No weapon was shown to the tellers, police said. No one was hurt.
