HILLSVILLE — Irish coffee will be on the menu when Court Street Coffee relaunches later this month.
Owners Mike and Barbara Gallaher had turned their attention to getting their steakhouse, Blue Agave at Interstate 77's Exit 14, off the ground since last October.
They're taking time to change up the coffee shop before reopening, though, including having sisters Nancy Fogarty of Galax and Anne Stinson of Woodlawn manage the place.
Their business, Blue Moon Catering, will also use Court Street as their base of operations.
"Blue Agave's working very well," Barbara Gallaher explained. "We feel like we've hit our stride with it and got over the bumps of starting a new restaurant."
Fogarty had been managing Blue Agave after Bogey's, where she formerly worked, closed.
She and the Gallahers had met when they were her regular customers at the now-defunct Galax restaurant.
"I was a real fan of the firecracker shrimp," Barbara Gallaher noted.
This new version of Court Street will serve that, plus have other new features. That includes being open for lunch and dinner as a cafe and Irish pub.
They will retain some old favorites from the coffee shop's previous menu, plus add some Irish staples like shepherd's pie, beef stew, fish and chips and more.
Renovations continue to give the place a more cozy feel with booths, a fireplace and an expanded bar.
Fogarty and Stinson will also offer full-service catering out of Hillsville.
When they say full-service, they add no event is too big or too small.
Plans are to reopen the tobacco-free Court Street on July 12.
"It will allow me to focus more time on Blue Agave and have Court Street still doing what we hoped it would become — a gathering place for families," Barbara said.
Fogarty and Stinson hail from a family from Fries, where their grandfather ran the textile mill and their grandmother worked.
Their father was born here, but relocated to Miami. The siblings visited here often, and they decided this is where they and their spouses wanted to end up.
The new hours for Court Street will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
