What are your thoughts on the Town of Hillsville's plan to annex the busy Interstate 77 area of Carroll County? One thing to consider: With the I-77/U.S. 58 interchange as part of the town, the county's ban on liquor-by-the-drink would no longer apply. Could this attract new restaurants and lodging that serve alcohol to locate there, thereby increasing the town's tax revenue?

Annexation

If the annexation happens, the tax base for the town will automatically increase from the businesses already located there. The County will lose whatever the town gains.

A smarter move would be for the crazies who keep voting "liquor by the drink" down to wake up and pass it. The passing of liquor by the drink has NOT increased public drunkenness or traffic accidents in the rest of the country. Why would it here? If you're paying $6 a drink, you probably will drink less than you would if you buy a pint for the same $6.

For those who feel religion is against it, consider that wine was served at the Last Supper. For those who think it was grape juice, consider that grapes are harvested in the Mideast in September and the Supper was in the spring. Ever try to keep grape juice from fermenting without refrigeration?

Noah was a beer salesman, for crissake! He was selected to perpetuate mankind.
