Galax 83, Fort Chiswell 62

Galax got double-digit scoring from four different players and pulled away for an 83-62 win over Fort Chiswell in a Mountain Empire District boys’ game Friday night.

Galax (13-3 overall, 6-0 district) outscored the Pioneers 22-14 in the second quarter to take a 47-34 lead into the half, then added to its lead down the stretch by outscoring Fort Chiswell 14-7 in the fourth.

Aundrey Sams led the Maroon Tide with 18 points and G Zachary added 17. Jeremiah Criner scored 16 and Jacob Bartlett tossed in 10.

The Pioneers (8-6, 3-3) got 21 points from Hodey Viars and 20 from Andrew Hamm, plus 12 from Zack Cook.

Cameron Frazier dished out 11 assists to go with his eight points.

JV – Fort chiswell 67-59.


Fort Chiswell 76, Galax 60

The Pioneers rode a big second quarter to an MED win Friday in Max Meadows.

Leading 19-12 after the first quarter and with Galax in foul trouble, Fort Chiswell outscored the Maroon Tide 28-15 in the second quarter to take a 47-27 halftime lead.

Kendra Vaughan scored 12 points in the second quarter, finishing with a game-high 30 for the Pioneers (11-5, 4-1). Page Quesenberry added 16 points.

Galax (6-12, 1-5) got 15 points from Caci Higgins, 12 from Megan Spears and 10 from Piper Caudell.

JV – Fort Chiswell won.

Carroll County 55, Richlands 37

The Cavaliers used a dominant second half to remain undefeated in Southwest District play with a 55-37 win Wednesday in Richlands.

Carroll County (7-7 overall, 6-0 district) outscored the Blue Tornado 31-14 in the second half after leading 24-23 at halftime.

Kayla Goins led three Cavaliers in double figures with 17 points. Hailie Lineberry scored 12 and Jessi Watts added 11.

Jenny Keene led Richlands (4-10, 1-5) with 14 points.

JV – Carroll County won.
