Grayson County 51, Alleghany (N.C.) 37

Mikaela Anders needed to score just 10 points Monday night to reach 1,000 for her career.

It didn’t take long.

Anders scored 12 in the first quarter and finished with a career-high 35 points to go with 22 rebounds as Grayson County knocked off Alleghany (N.C.) 51-37 in a nondistrict game Monday night.

The win avenged a pair of earlier losses to the Trojans (3-11).

Anders, a 6-foot senior center, added 14 fourth-quarter points as the Blue Devils (7-5) pulled away from a 37-28 third-quarter lead.

Celeste Caudill led Alleghany with 17 points.

Galax 46, Giles 37

Jamie Webb was 10-of-10 from the foul line in the second half and scored a season-high 18 points Monday as the Maroon Tide took a nondistrict win from the Spartans in Pearisburg.

Galax (4-7) jumped to a 10-3 lead after one quarter and stretched the margin to 29-20 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Giles (2-8) was led by Kelsey Frazier’s 11 points and 13 rebounds.

JV –– Galax won.

Alleghany (NC) 67, Grayson County 56

The Blue Devils got a career-high 17 points from Chris Anders, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a slow start in a nondistrict loss Monday in Sparta, N.C.

Grayson County (1-11) fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter and trailed 33-18 by halftime before outscoring the Trojans (7-7) by four in the second half.

Worth Smith and Hunter Thomas combined for 40 points for Alleghany, led by Smith’s 21.
