Hash wins diesel truck championship

ELK CREEK -- The Great Diesel Truck Championship kicked off an exciting weekend of racing last Friday at Elk Creek Dragway, with the finals coming down to a Ford vs. Chevy match-up. Bobby Hash of Independence took the class win in his Chevy, running a 9.90 e.t. at 62 mph. Robbie Baker of Fries settled for a runner-up finish in his Ford with an 11.11 e.t. at 61 mph. Racing action continued on Saturday with a pair of Chevy-powered dragsters reaching the final in the Super Pro Eliminator class. Bill Lewis of Hillsville was the winner after recording a 4.82 e.t. at 126 mph, while Yadkinville, N.C., driver Scott Carpenter was the runner-up, posting an identical 4.82 e.t. at 126. Billy Lambert of Rural Retreat was the winner in the 5.70 Heads-Up class, with Chad Hancock of Wytheville finishing in the runner-up spot. Sherman Hawks and his Plymouth GTX won the 6.99 Heads-Up class over Seth Lineberry and his Camaro. Seth Marshall of Princeton. W.Va., won the Motorcycle class with Jerry Turner of Bluff City, Tenn., as runner-up. Next in line was the Tom Baker show. Baker won the Footbrake Eliminator class with a final-round 7.63 e.t. at 81 mph. The runner-up was Ronnie Brannock of Galax in a Chevy Impala. Baker turned around and won in the D.O.T. class, besting Travis Hash of Independence in the final. D.J. Moore of Princeton, W.Va., was the winner of the Bracket 2 Junior Dragster class over Independence’s Jason Halsey, while Lockie Bales of Atkins won the Bracket 1 Junior Dragster final over Corey Pack of Independence. The 7.90 Heads-Up Junior Dragster win went to C.J. Mulkey of Speedwell. Jason Halsey was the runner-up in the class.
