Participants will walk to Food City for a costume-judging contest. Contest sign-up starts at 6 p.m. Children younger than age 5 must have an adult walk with them.

Oct. 31: Downtown Galax Halloween Monster Bash — UPDATED

The 8th Annual Halloween Monster Bash, sponsored by the Galax Downtown Association, will relocate to Galax High School. Events will still be held from 5-8 p.m.

The festivities will include a parade, a costume contest, music, games, free hot dogs and lots of candy.
Last year, around 4,000 children and parents enjoyed this “Safe Halloween” alternative.
All local businesses, organizations and civic groups are welcome to join in as well.
Judging for the children’s costume contest will take place at 7:30 p.m., followed by a drawing for a 50/50 cash raffle. Those who enter must be present at the event to win. Costume contest categories are baby to 3 years, 4-7 years, 8-12 years and 13-up.
In addition, there will be an assortment of games set up, free food and candy hand-outs.
The event will feature music from DJ Robert Kirby and performances from the Conservatory of Dance & Theater.
Absolutely no candy will be handed out prior to the start of the event at 5 p.m.
The association is also accepting candy and money donations for the event. Those who donate either a minimum of $5 or two bags of candy will be given a yard sign that reads “I gave my candy to the Downtown Monster Bash” to avoid trick-or-treaters at home.
For more information about the Halloween Monster Bash, contact the Galax Downtown Association at (276) 236-0668. Donations can be dropped off and yard signs picked up at A Place in Time Antiques from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday. You can reach Petersen at A Place in Time by calling (276) 238-9900.
