Guardian Industries of Galax, also known as Consolidated Glass & Mirror Corp. laid off 52 employees Tuesday.

This reduction was directly related to the challenging economic conditions facing the country over the past three years, according to a press release issued today, Wednesday.

“We are optimistic about our long-term opportunities, however the company had to make a short-term move to ensure future success,” said Greg Adkins, Galax company spokesperson. “Economic conditions predicted for the first half of this year required an action such as this to ensure we are ready to take advantage of future opportunities.

“Each of our employees have made significant contributions to this company and will be sorely missed.”
