INDEPENDENCE -- It was only to be expected that Grayson County would face an improved Galax team from the one it throttled in five innings at the beginning of the month. It was a little more improvement than the Blue Devils cared to see. Held hitless and mired in a 1-1 game after four innings, Grayson County finally broke free with five runs in its last two turns at bat, surviving the Maroon Tide 6-1 in a Mountain Empire District game at B.A. Rhudy Fields. “Their pitcher did a good job,” Grayson County coach Tim Hollingsworth said of Galax’s Adrienne Sikes.
