School board to hold special meeting Monday to appoint a superintendent.

INDEPENDENCE — The Grayson County School Board will hold a special called meeting Monday to appoint a new superintendent for the school system.
The meeting in the Grayson County Courthouse Boardroom will begin with a closed session at 5:30 p.m., followed by an open session beginning at 6 p.m.
At that time, the new school chief will be introduced. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.
Division Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Thomas is leaving June 30 after serving in the position for the last six years.
The school board received 11 applications for the position. Three applicants are current or former superintendents, two are assistant or deputy superintendents, three are central office administrators, two are principals or building-level administrators and one was classified as “other.”
Seven applicants are men and four are women.
Five applicants are from out-of-state (Michigan, West Virginia, Colorado and two from North Carolina), while six are from Virginia.
