Grayson girls keep winning, bump off Bland

 ROCKY GAP –– Grayson County ran its winning streak to four games Wednesday night, overcoming a slow start and knocking off Bland County 48-44 in a Mountain Empire District girls' game at Rocky Gap High School.

The Blue Devils (5-6 overall, 2-0 MED) could only manage a three-point lead despite holding the Bears (7-5, 1-1) to two first-quarter points, but Grayson pulled out to a 25-14 lead by halftime.

Meredith Frost scored 17 points to pace the Blue Devils, who will battle Galax for the district's top spot tonight (Friday).

Jessie Blessing scored 17 points to lead Bland County, and Amber Eaton tossed in 13.

Galax 66, Fort Chiswell 25:  The Maroon Tide outscored the Pioneers 16-2 in the second quarter to jump out to a 31-8 halftime lead and cruised to the MED win Wednesday in Galax.

Allison White's double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds paced Galax (9-3, 2-0). Taylor Bryant and Sydney Lindsey scored 10 points apiece.

Pulaski County 49, Carroll County 48:  Hannah Chaffin scored with seven seconds left to propel the Cougars past the Cavaliers in a nondistrict game Wednesday in Hillsville.

Chaffin finished with a team-high 14 points for Pulaski (8-6), which had lost by 14 points to the Cavaliers a week ago. Sydney Anderson scored 11 for the Cougars.

Lindsay Martin poured in 22 points for Carroll County (11-4), which had a potential winning shot miss at the buzzer. It was the Cavaliers' second loss this season to a team it had earlier defeated by 14 or more.

Camryn McGrady scored 13 points and hauled in 13 rebounds, and Sarah Eller scored 13 points for Grayson County (4-7). Mary Hand led all scorers with 16 points for Holston (3-10).

Pulaski County 68, Carroll County 66, OT:  Dominic Morris scored with two seconds remaining in overtime Wednesday to lift the Cougars to a nondistrict win over the Cavaliers in Dublin.

The win avenged an 18-point loss to the Cavaliers (10-2) in December.

Andrew Samuelson led Pulaski County (6-6) with 16 points. Morris finished with 11 points and Tyler Dotson added 10.

Ryan Gravley led three Carroll County scorers in double figures with 19 points. Connor Lundy scored 14 and Gunnar Beamer tossed in 12.

Galax (7-0) broke open a tight game by outscoring the Trojans 21-11 in the second period to lead 33-20 at halftime.

Austin Pack led all scorers with 18 points and Devonte McKinney added 10 points for Galax. Nobody reached double figures for Alleghany.

Grayson County 87, Bland County 76:  The Blue Devils snapped a four-game slide with their highest offensive output of the year, running past the Bears in a MED game Tuesday.

Max Rodgers and Ty Cannaday led four Grayson scorers in double figures with 23 and 21 points, respectively. Adam Wyatt and Landon Frost tossed in 15 points apiece.

Asher Dillow and Chase Hankins went nuts from the outside for Bland County (9-4, 1-1), combining for 15 3-pointers and 55 points. Dillow had eight treys and 31 points and Hankins added seven 3-pointers and 24 points. Darrell Clark scored 13 points for the Bears, who had 17 3-pointers as a team.
