CROSS COUNTRY

Grayson County took four of the top five girls’ finishing places and three of the top seven boys’ spots to sweep a nondistrict cross country meet last Wednesday at the Carroll County Recreation Park.

Grayson’s Emma Wyatt posted a winning time of 22 minutes, 51 seconds and held off teammate Olivia Wyatt by 20 seconds to win the girls’ race. Fellow Blue Devil Mary Beth Cunningham finished third in 23:23 and Hayley Reavis was fifth in 23:54.

Breaking up the Grayson County sweep was Elise Zyvlosky of Carroll County, who finished fourth in 23:41.

The Cavaliers’ Lindsey Brumfield was seventh and Grayson’s Natalie Ruiz finished eighth.

Grayson County and Marion were the only teams with enough runners to post team scores, with the Devils taking five of the top seven scoring spots to finish with 18 points. Marion was second with 39. Carroll, Rural Retreat and Richlands fielded incomplete teams.

In the boys’ race, Tyler Pauley placed second, Adam Wyatt was fifth and Baley Hawkins seventh as Grayson County took a tight four-team battle for the team win.

Pauley’s time of 18:21 was good enough for the runner-up spot individually behind Rural Retreat’s Matthew Farmer, who posted a 17:34. Wyatt ran a 19:26 and Hawkins a 19:57 as the Blue Devils finished with 44 team points.

Carroll County was second in the team standings with 52 points and Rural Retreat third with 55, while Marion was a close fourth with 60 points.

Zach Cochran of Carroll was third overall in 18:39, William Barrett finished eighth in 20:02 and Hunter Blessing rounded out the top 10 with a time of 20:06.
