BLUEFIELD -- Graham beat Graham.
Brent Graham’s two-run home run helped lift Grayson County to a 7-3 win in the second round of play Thursday in the Coppinger Invitational at Bowen Field.
Graham’s homer put the Blue Devils (4-5) in front 4-2 in the fourth inning, and Grayson County built its advantage to 7-2 with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before giving up a run to the G-Men in the bottom of the sixth.
Jared Sells pitched the final four innings to pick up the win and Tyler Rutherford had a pair of hits for the Blue Devils.
Graham dropped to 1-4 with the loss.
Galax 9, Radford 3: All the scoring was over by the middle of the third inning of a nondistrict game Wednesday night at Felts Park.
Trailing 1-0, Galax scored all nine of its runs in the bottom of the first inning, thanks in part to two doubles by Tyler Houk and another from Jacob Woodel.
Houk was 3-for-4 and Travis Cockerham was 2-for-4 for Galax. Kyle Schaeffer got the mound win, striking out six and walking four, allowing two earned runs in five innings.
Galax 9, Oak Hill Academy 8: The Maroon Tide scored six times in the final three innings and held off the Warriors in a nondistrict game Tuesday in Mouth of Wilson.
Brock Cox and Scott Alouf each had two doubles for Galax. Tyler Houk was 4-for-5 and Cox had three hits to lead the Maroon Tide.
Galax 4, Fort Chiswell 2: Jorge Mendez scored three of the Maroon Tide’s four goals in an MED win Thursday in Galax. Fort Chiswell’s goals came from Dakota Mabe and Gavin Burnett.
