Grayson County boys top Glenvar

INDEPENDENCE –– Grayson County was a combined eight points better than Glenvar in the first and third quarters, making for the difference as the Blue Devils defeated the Highlanders 57-49 in a nondistrict boys’ game Monday night.

Grayson County (4-10) outscored Glenvar 13-9 in both the first and third periods and took a 40-30 lead after the third.

Max Rodgers hit three 3-pointers and led the Blue Devils with 17 points while James Williams scored 14 for Grayson County.

The Highlanders (7-6) knocked down eight 3-pointers as a team, including four by Austin Fox, who led all scorers with 18 points. Jeremy Williams swished three 3-pointers and scored 14 and Zach York added 11 for Glenvar, which had only four players reach the scoring column.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Chilhowie 57, Grayson County 48: The Warriors took control in the first half and held off the Blue Devils in a nondistrict game Monday in Chilhowie.

Chilhowie (14-1) took a 34-25 lead at the half and maintained its lead to the end.

Danielle Catron hit five 3-pointers and poured in 28 points for the Warriors to lead all scorers and Kenzie Sabo added 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Grayson County was led by Camryn McGrady with 24 points.

Carroll County 50, Patrick Henry 41: After a sluggish first half by the Cavaliers, Keely Lundy provided a second-half spark as Carroll County held off the Patriots in a River Ridge District game Friday in Roanoke.

Lundy hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 of her 19 points after halftime, matching Carroll County’s entire first-half point total. Crysta Guynn added 10 points for Carroll

The Cavaliers (11-2, 6-0) pulled out to a 16-point lead before Patrick Henry (1-13, 1-4) drew back to within four.

Carroll County was just 3-of-10 from the foul line in the first half and struggled to score from anywhere, managing just 17 first-half points but holding the Patriots to 11 points at halftime.

Cienna Bryant was 8-for-8 from the foul line and led Patrick Henry with 15 points.
