Grayson boys blank Floyd to go to 3-0

 INDEPENDENCE –– Grayson County improved to 3-0 on the year with a 9-0 shutout of Floyd County in a nondistrict boys’ tennis match Monday in Independence.

No. 1 seed Garrett Bailey took a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sam Belcher and teamed with Mike Vaughan for a 6-2, 6-3 win over Belcher and Josh Calloway at No. 1 doubles.

Vaughan, Mica Paluzzi, Jake Parnell, Ben Horton and Grayson Holdaway were all singles winners for Grayson County.


Galax 1, Floyd County 0: The Maroon Tide used a late goal to take a nondistrict win Monday over the Buffaloes.

Galax (3-0) scored with about four minutes remaining when Chantasy Cottrell’s shot caromed off the crossbar and Alex Moreno was on the spot to put back the rebound.

Abbi Ponce had 12 saves for the Maroon Tide.


Floyd Co. 10, Grayson Co. 0: Amber Ingram and Christine Phillips combined on a perfect game as the Buffaloes took a nondistrict win over the Blue Devils Monday in Floyd.

Ingram struck out seven and got the win for Floyd County (5-0). Alexis Rupe was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and Dani Harris slugged a two-run homer for the Buffaloes.


Floyd Co. 1, Grayson Co. 1: The Blue Devils’ Derek Weatherman scored on an assist from Mario Ruiz but Grayson had to settle for a draw in a nondistrict game Monday in Floyd.
