NARROWS –– Three Grayson County pitchers limited Narrows to a pair of hits Monday and the Blue Devils wrapped up the Mountain Empire District regular season championship with a 10-0 win shortened to six innings.

Jared Salts improved to 8-0 on the mound, giving up two singles in four innings. The senior right-hander struck out four and walked two. Dustin Leonard and Tyler Rutherford each pitched one hitless inning.

The Blue Devils (10-5 overall, 7-0 district) took the lead for good just two batters into the game as Tyler Rutherford led off with a double and scored on Johnny Warren’s base hit. Dylan Isom later drove in Warren for a 2-0 lead.

Rutherford added an RBI double in the fourth and Leonard followed with a run-scoring triple in a three-run third. The Blue Devils tacked on four runs in the fifth, sparked by Spencer Roberts’ RBI double.

Roberts and Rutherford each had two doubles for Grayson County.

Chilhowie 8, Grayson Co. 5: Scott Pennington’s RBI double led a four-run fifth inning, which allowed the Warriors (13-2) to pull away from the Blue Devils (10-6) for the nondistrict win Wednesday in Independence.

Brett Johnson pitched six innings for Chilhowie, allowing six hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

Tyler Rutherford had two hits and Jared Salts scored two runs for Grayson County.

Abingdon 1, Carroll County 0: The Falcons got two of their three hits in the fourth inning to score the only run in a Southwest District game Saturday in Abingdon.

The game was called after the fifth inning due to sloppy field conditions.

Taylor Stewart led off the fourth with a double, scoring on Talley Ford’s two-out single.

Carroll County (12-5) had loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fourth but came up empty against Falcons starter Logan Viers.
