Graham sweeps Devils for MED lead

 INDEPENDENCE –– In a battle for the top spot in the Mountain Empire District girls’ basketball race, Grayson County took an early lead but Graham took control with a big third quarter run and held on to defeat the Blue Devils 59-55 Friday night at Grayson County Middle School.

Both teams left the floor with 8-5 overall records. The G-Girls returned to Bluefield with the top spot in the MED standings at 4-0 while the Blue Devils dropped a game back at 3-1.

Each team had three scorers reach double figures, led by Graham’s Lexi Kiser with 19 points. Jia Coppola and Dejah Carter added 10 points apiece for the G-Girls.

Grayson County was led by a 17-point effort from Camryn McGrady while Taylor Cannaday and Meredith Frost chipped in by scoring 12 points each.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Graham 64, Grayson County 55: The Blue Devils stayed within reach of the league-leading G-Men all night but couldn’t make the game-changing run and fell in an MED game Friday in Independence.

Graham improved to 9-4 overall and remained the district’s lone unbeaten at 5-0. The Blue Devils dropped to 3-10, 1-2 in the district.

Colby Hill led three G-Men in double figures with 19 points while Tanner Miller totaled 13 and Roman Workman added 10.

Grayson County got a game-high 20 points from Ty Cannaday and Max Rodgers scored 17.
