New traffic patterns will go into place March 14 at the Glendale Road/U.S. 58 intersection in Galax, as part of a $1.2 million road construction project to reconfigure the intersection and install a new traffic signal.
Motorists traveling west on Glendale Road will need to use alternate routes such as Larkspur Lane or Allen Lane before reaching the intersection of Glendale Road and U.S. 58. Signs will be in place to advise motorists of these changes.
Part of the project will involve closing a lane near Subway restaurant that requires westbound Glendale drivers to look over their left shoulders to make sure it's safe to merge with 58 traffic.
During construction, U.S. 58 traffic will still be able to turn onto Glendale Road, but drivers should be aware that traffic will be shifted into a new pattern. Motorists should use caution.
Work will affect about 0.1 mile of Glendale Road at U.S. 58. The project also entails building a new retaining wall along westbound Glendale Road, adding sidewalks and installing curb and gutter.
Work on the project is expected to be completed in October.
