Gladys Perkins Collins, 90, of Independence, died Jan. 29, 2012, at Alleghany Memorial Hospital, Sparta, N.C.

She was born June 20, 1921, at Farmville, to the late George Perkins and Pearl Jones Perkins.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Collins of the home; son and spouse, Kemper and Susan Collins of Alexandria; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two brothers, George Perkins Jr. of Farmville and Lawrence Perkins of Newport News.
