George reaches 1,000 in Galax win

Deion George scored 10 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as Galax rolled over Bland County 59-28 in a Mountain Empire District boys’ basketball game Tuesday in Galax.

George entered the game nine points shy of the magic number and entered the fourth quarter with just two points on the night. He finished with an eight-point flurry and topped 1,000 with one minute remaining in the game.

Lawrence Parsons scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the first half and Devonte McKinney added 15 points for Galax (19-1 overall, 8-1 district).
