The Twin County tri match came on the heels of the inaugural Ford Memorial Dual tournament hosted by the Maroon Tide last Saturday.

Mount Airy finished 3-0 to win the team title, which was whittled down to four teams by late cancellations from teams originally scheduled to compete.

Galax coach Kevin Spurlin said he already had several commitments for next year and hopes to field a 12-team event.

“It was a little smaller than we had hoped it would be but we would like to thank everyone who attended and supported our wrestling program and Maroon Tide athletics,” Spurlin said. “I thought it was a good day for our kids. We’re seeing noticeable improvement in all of our weight classes.”

Galax was second in the team standings with a 2-1 mark, defeating Fort Chiswell 54-24 and Grayson County 47-24 while dropping its match with Mount Airy 54-21. Grayson County went 1-2 with losses to Galax and Mount Airy and a win over Fort Chiswell.

Caleb Spurlin finished 3-0 with two pins and a forfeit at 220 pounds, Jack Vaughn had two pins at 160,  going 2-1 on the day and Sawyers was 2-1 with a pin and a technical fall at 113.
