Galax rips Holston in opener

DAMASCUS –– Galax opened its girls’ basketball season with a bang, bolting to a 19-point halftime lead and crushing Holston 71-32 in a nondistrict game Monday night.

All 11 players scored for the Maroon Tide, which had assists on 27 of its 32 field goals and committed only 12 turnovers.

Jamie Webb had six points in the second quarter as Galax took a 33-14 halftime lead. Allison White added six points in the third quarter and Bailey Shumate poured in 11 fourth-quarter points to lead all scorers with 15. Shumate also had six assists and four steals.
