A Galax man faces six charges following a traffic stop June 3.
Galax Police Chief Rick Clark said Francisco Javier Garcia, 36, was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, driving after revocation, refusal to take blood or breath test, aggravated sexual battery and attempted bribery of a public officer.
Clark said Garcia was arrested after a traffic stop by Officer Drew Burnett.
After his arrest for DUI, Burnett discovered that Garcia had presented a false identification. Further investigation by Burnett revealed that Garcia was wanted for alleged aggravated sexual battery in a 2007 Galax case involving a minor child.
The attempted bribery of a public officer allegedly occurred during the booking process when he allegedly offered cash in an attempt to secure his release from custody.
Also during the booking process, it was discovered that Garcia was wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for illegal re-entry into the United States after having been previously deported.
Garcia is being held in the New River Valley Jail in Dublin without bond pending his appearance in Galax General District Court.
