Galax parade, Christmas tree lighting on Friday

The Galax Christmas Parade, with the theme “Music, Memories & Miracles,” will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday on North Main Street in downtown Galax.

The event will kick off with the Galax High School jazz band, beginning at 6:10 p.m., and the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Harold Snead Public Safety Building, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Pastor Tom Whartenby of Galax Presbyterian Church will say the blessing and Galax Mayor C.M. Mitchell will provide the greeting, before the countdown to the tree lighting. The tree lighting ceremony is sponsored by the City of Galax.

The Galax Downtown Association, sponsor of the parade, is expecting at least 50 entries.

There will be monetary awards for float entries in the categories of Best Religious, Best Theme, and Best Overall.
