Galax to open state at Rye Cove
Group A Division 1 volleyball
Rye Cove defeated J.I. Burton in the finals of the Region D Division 1 tournament Saturday and will be the destination for Galax in the opening round of the Group A Division 1 state tournament Tuesday.
The contest will be a rematch of last year's state quarterfinals, in which Rye Cove defeated Galax 3-1.
The winner between Rye Cove (13-12) and Galax (24-2) advances to Friday's state semifinals at the Siegel Center on the campus of VCU in Richmond for a 10:30 a.m. meeting against the winner between Altavista and Appomattox Regional Governor's School.
Bath County hosts J.I. Burton and Riverheads travels to Middlesex in the other quarterfinal matches Tuesday.
The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
Tickets for all state tournament matches are $10.
