William Jones was on his way back to work and just wanted to pick up a soft drink when he bought a Win It All Scratcher ticket from the Virginia Lottery.
Instead, he walked out of the store with a $200,000 top prize-winning ticket.
“I knew it was a winner, but I figured maybe five or 10 dollars,” Jones told Lottery officials as he claimed his prize. “I took it to the clerk and said, ‘Am I looking at this right?’ She said, ‘You sure are!’”
He bought the winning ticket at Kangaroo Express, at 806 South Main Street in Galax.
Jones, who works at a furniture manufacturer, said he plans to save his winnings for retirement.
Win It All features prizes ranging from $5 all the way up to $200,000. This is the third top prize claimed in Win It All, which means two top-prize tickets remain unclaimed.
The Virginia Lottery generates more than $1.3 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools. Operating entirely on revenue from the sale of Lottery products, the Virginia Lottery generated more than $487.1 million for Virginia’s public schools in Fiscal Year 2012.
