By Staff Reports

Galax-Grayson EMS responded to an accident near Camp Zion Road in Galax the afternoon of May 27.
They arrived on the scene to find that Billy Redd of Galax, 77, had sustained serious injuries in a lawnmower accident.
At press time, there was no further information about the nature of the accident.
While the Galax Volunteer Fire Department did not respond to the scene, Fire Chief David Hankley confirmed that Redd’s condition was urgent enough to require an airlift to the hospital.
The helicopter made an additional emergency landing after suffering damage from a bird strike, Hankley said. Another helicopter was quickly dispatched to continue medical transport.
