Galax man dies in N.C. crash

LOWGAP, N.C. — Dave Carl Call Jr., 49, of 3244 Poplar Knob Road in Galax, died Sept. 1 as the result of a vehicle fatality in Surry County, N.C., officials said.

Call was traveling westbound on N.C. 89 towards Galax and was at the intersection with Lumber Plant Road at about 7:45 p.m. when he reportedly struck a guard rail and overturned into the parking lot of the former Lowgap Elementary School, now used as a community center and library. He was ejected from the car and died at the scene.
