Galax High School’s volleyball program is thinking pink.
The Maroon Tide and Narrows varsity and JV teams will be competitors on the floor but teammates for a cause Thursday as Galax hosts the Green Wave for a ‘Volley for the Cure’ game at the GHS gymnasium.
The Mountain Empire District match will begin at 6 p.m. with the JV game, and the varsity will follow.
A 50/50 raffle is planned and donations will be accepted to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. The teams have already sold pink T-shirts to the faculties and staffs of their respective schools, who will wear them on game day. Joining the faculty, students are asked to wear pink to school on Thursday to support the cause.
All profits made from the event will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
In addition to the fundraiser, both teams will be wearing pink jerseys donated by Teco Coal and the Grayson Law Firm. All spectators are also asked to wear pink.
Galax joined Narrows in a Volley for the Cure night in the two teams’ meeting in Narrows in September.
