Galax (16-3 overall, 8-0 district) clinched at least a tie for the MED regular season championship, which it can lock up this week with a win over either Bland County or Narrows.

The Maroon Tide pulled away beginning with a Bryant 3-pointer at the 4:21 mark of the first period. Leading 7-5, Galax outscored Grayson County 18-2 into the early stages of the second period. Bryant had a pair of treys and White dropped in nine points in the first quarter as the Maroon Tide bolted to a 23-7 lead.

Galax would hit 10-of-18 shots from the floor in the first eight minutes.

Sydney Lindsey opened the second quarter with a stickback and the lead was at 20 points, 30-10, on a White layup midway through the period. Holly Cassell connected twice for the Tide as it took a 41-14 lead into the half.

White sank two free throws and converted an old-fashioned three-point play as Galax scored the first nine points of the second half. The Maroon Tide took its largest lead of the night, 50-14, on Hailey Cassell’s layup at 6:03 of the third quarter.

Galax cooled considerably after connecting on 21 of its first 39 field goal attempts, finishing the night 25-of-70. Grayson County (8-11, 4-4) took advantage of the opportunity and cut into the Maroon Tide lead as Natasha Moore scored seven points in the fourth quarter. Five of Moore’s points came as the Blue Devils opened the fourth with a 7-0 run.

Galax committed a season-low 11 turnovers and outrebounded the Blue Devils 45-40. White led the Maroon Tide with 20 points and eight rebounds and Bryant added 15 points and five assists as 10 Galax players made it into the scoring column.

Camryn McGrady scored 11 points and Moore contributed 10 points and seven rebounds to lead Grayson County.
