Galax girls fall to Bland 47-36

 BLAND -- Galax couldn’t overcome a slow start and fell to Bland County 47-36 in a Mountain Empire District girls’ game Saturday.

The Maroon Tide wraps up its regular season with a 9-11 overall record, 2-6 in the district, and will enter the MED tournament as the No. 5 seed. Bland County stayed even with Narrows atop the league standings with a 6-1 mark and improved to 15-2 overall. The Bears took an 11-point lead in the first quarter and went into the half ahead 27-15. Kirby Mustard scored 16 points for Bland, which got 11 points and 11 rebounds from Laurel Hankins, plus 10 points and eight boards from Sam Magyar.
