A representative of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys has confirmed that construction will soon begin on a new Goodwill store in Galax.
The existing facility should to be moving to the new store in August 2013.
“We are excited about [building] a new, much larger store,” said Jim Shaver, vice president of marketing and development.
Grading is scheduled to start in early January, weather permitting, and construction should be completed by July. “We plan to move from our current store into our new facility in August,” said Shaver.
The new store will be built on the lot formerly owned by Pilot Homes. It is located next to H&H Auto on East Stuart Drive.
The lot, which covers 2.1 acres, will offer great opportunities for expansion, Shaver said. “The new store will be much larger, covering 12,500 square feet compared to the 7,975 that we occupy now,” next to Dollar General on East Stuart.
There will be enough parking for up to 65 vehicles.
Shaver noted that donations will be collected at the new store instead of at a free-standing donation center, as is done now.
Three jobs will be added to the 16 positions that are already in place, said Shaver.
There is no word at this time about plans for the existing store.
