Pulaski County H.S. tentative host

It still wasn’t certain as of 8:30 Monday evening exactly where Galax would play its Group A Division 1 state quarterfinal game. At least the Maroon Tide knows for whom to prepare.

Galax will face Twin Valley in one of four first-round games set for Friday and Saturday as the state begins working its way toward its championship week, March 10-14 in Richmond. The Maroon Tide is planning on a Friday meeting with Twin Valley at 7 p.m. at Pulaski County High School.

The Maroon Tide (25-2) had originally expected to host the Region D runner-up Panthers (21-5) at either Carroll County or Fort Chiswell, but the Virginia High School League sprang a surprise over the weekend by announcing a new ‘super site’ format in which several games would be hosted at selected venues throughout the state. Galax was informed that, despite winning the Region C championship, it would be traveling to Region D country to play at Virginia High in Bristol.

Though it is still tentative, Galax has worked a deal with Pulaski County High School to use its gym.

The winner of the Galax-Twin Valley game will advance to Richmond and the semifinals at 5 p.m. next Thursday against the winner between Eastern Montgomery and Region D champion Appalachia, who are set to face off Saturday in Bristol.

Further updates will be posted as they become available.
