Locals who have kept up with the new Food Network series “The Shed” will see familiar surroundings on Monday night, as the next episode will chronicle the barbecue team’s visit to Galax in July for the 2013 Smoke on the Mountain competition.
The Shed, a barbecue team from Mississippi, found fame after they began their unique business, fixing their menu under the roof of a hand-built shed made from recycled scraps. Over the years, their business has expanded to several other locations throughout the United States ― and since the team carried on the tradition made from building their first restaurant, no two locations look the same.
As they continued their rise to fame, the Food Network began airing a reality show about the team on Aug. 5.
When the annual barbecue competition in Galax caught their eye, The Shed team loaded up their equipment and headed towards the Blue Ridge Mountains, followed by their camera crews. They spent two days filming in downtown Galax during the official state barbecue contest.
“They are putting us on national television, where so many more teams who have never heard of Smoke on the Mountain will see our city and our contest,” said Ron Passmore of Galax, one of the event’s organizers.
He shared what Neil Mandt, the show’s executive producer, said to him after they wrapped up filming: “Expect an even bigger crowd next year.”
Promos featuring shots of the downtown Galax competition have already aired on television.
The episode will air on the Food Network at 10 p.m. on Monday.
