ROANOKE — A 45-year-old Galax man faces deportation, as well as a fine and jail time, in connection with illegal drug charges.
Arturo Valjean Hernandez appeared in federal district court in Roanoke Sept. 14 to answer for a charge of conspiring to distribute more than 500 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine.
The possible maximum penalty includes a $10 million fine and life in federal prison, according to court papers.
Sentencing guidelines that apply in Hernandez’s case will be enhanced due to his possession of dangerous weapons, according to court papers.
Hernandez may be subject to deportation if convicted.
Judge Glen Conrad accepted the plea agreement and ordered a pre-sentencing report.
The judge set Hernandez’s sentencing date for Dec. 12.
