The funeral for Deputy Curtis Bartlett will be held Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Galax at 2 p.m., and visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. at the church.
Bartlett died on duty March 9 while responding to a pursuit, when his police cruiser hit a tractor-trailer.
There will only be a funeral service, no post-processional and no graveside ceremony, according to Virginia State Police and the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. Services will include a processional with a horse-drawn caisson provided by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, with law enforcement color guards lined up outside the church.
No media will be allowed at the service, but video from the funeral will be livestreamed Wednesday on the First Baptist Church's Facebook page, facebook.com/FBCGalax/.
A large turnout is expected for the service, with local police indicating that officers from multiple states plan to attend. The sheriff's office said that overflow parking will be at the Magic Mart shopping center across East Stuart Drive, with buses available to take people to the church.
