HILLSVILLE — Representatives of the Greater Carroll County Chapter of Fuller Center for Housing have invited the community to the dedication of the completed home on Crestview Drive.
The dedication will take place Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. at the house.
“Many members of the Hillsville/Carroll County community have been working for years to raise funds, secure land for the home, build it and find a family to live there,” the invitation notes.
What makes this a community event is the great cross-section of participants from Carroll County and beyond that made this house project possible, said Oliver McBride, a Fuller Center board member.
Many aspects of the construction of the home and making the site ready fell to building trades classes from Carroll County High School.
“The students who have participated are our community’s young people who have in addition to learning the valuable skills of house construction learned the value of reaching out and helping other people,” McBride said in a message to The Gazette. “They are to be commended and the whole community is invited to come and see what they and the many other volunteers have done.”
McBride knows that many groups have pitched in on the volunteering and fundraising efforts, including many churches from all over Carroll County, a church in Tazewell and the Laurel Fork senior citizens program, just to name a few.
“There have been people from all over the community that have really contributed in some way,” McBride said. “It is a community project.”
