Floyd County, Marion take wins from Blue Devils

FLOYD –– Floyd County rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit with a big third quarter and defeated Grayson County 67-53 in a nondistrict boys’ game Monday night.

The Blue Devils (4-3) had defeated the Buffaloes (4-1) by 14 points two weeks ago and led 33-25 at intermission, but Floyd County outscored Grayson County 22-5 in the third quarter and never trailed again in claiming a 14-point win.

Tucker Crawford and Cole Peters each scored 17 points to lead the Buffaloes, who have not lost since dropping their season opener to Grayson.

Eric Harvey scored 13 points to lead the Devils and Preston Bowen added 12.

The Scarlet Hurricane avenged an earlier loss to the Blue Devils in a nondistrict game Monday in Marion.

Grayson County (1-6) outscored Marion (3-5) by three points over the final three quarters but was the victim of a slow start, falling behind 17-2 after the first eight minutes.

The Devils got back to within six points midway through the fourth quarter and had three possessions with which to get even closer, but couldn’t pull off the comeback.

Brooke Henderson led the Scarlet Hurricane with 13 points and Jessi Shuler contributed four points and 10 rebounds.

Leah Hall scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Devils and Kayla Spurlin added 13 points.
