HILLSVILLE –– Floyd County rallied from a five-point halftime deficit behind the hot shooting of Krista Cox and dealt Carroll County its first loss of the season, 58-47, in a nondistrict game Friday.
The Cavaliers had opened the season with six straight wins and led 30-25 at intermission, but Cox sank four 3-pointers in the second half as the Buffaloes (7-1) outscored Carroll County 33-17 over the final two quarters.
Cox hit six 3-pointers in all and finished with a game-high 20 points. Maria Kuchenbuch scored 13 for Floyd County.
Lindsey Martin and Shyann Dalton led Carroll County with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Carroll County (6-0) took a five-point lead into the half, 18-13, and held off the Cougars (4-4) in the second half.
Ebony Reynolds’ 11 points were tops for Patrick County.
