Fewer receive heating assistance

-A A +A

Some businesses are hiring, which resulted in fewer applicants in 2011.

By April Wright, Reporter

Fewer Galax households received heating assistance funds in 2011, which could be the result of more people being hired, said Susan Clark, director of Galax Department of Social Services.
With some businesses hiring — such as the new furniture company Albany Industries, Results calling center and Consolidated Glass — “we’ve heard indication that some of our clients are getting on at these locations,” said Clark.
The heating assistance program assists low-income households in meeting their immediate home energy needs.
