HILLSVILLE — The Labor Day Gun Show and Flea Market shed another 124 vendors in 2013 and has dropped by a third of its 2003 numbers.
While parties on the ground reported good shopper attendance in 2013, fewer vendors means less impact on the local economy, because of a decrease in the funds that change hands between vendors to the land owners with spaces to rent to them.
In the last decade, 2003 saw the most interest from vendors in setting up at the flea market, according to licensing figures from the Town of Hillsville. That year, 1,880 vendors came to town.
