The 20-by-28-foot permanent stage that Branson Construction's crew has been working on in Felts Park for the past few weeks should be complete in time for the Galax Moose Lodge-sponsored fiddlers' convention in August, if not sooner, said Galax City Manager Keith Barker.

The permanent stage is being built as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Galax Old Fiddlers' Convention.

The cost of the construction of the stage is estimated at $240,000, and is being funded with a $100,000 grant from USDA Rural Development and matching funds from the City of Galax and the Galax Moose Lodge.

The stage is designed to have a stone foundation and wooden overlay, with framed log siding and a metal roof to give it a rustic appearance.

The interior will feature heating and air conditioning; dressing, sound and warm-up rooms; and restrooms.

The stage will be set nearly 100 feet back from the grandstands and will accommodate various performances and events.
