INDEPENDENCE — A fugitive wanted in West Palm Beach, Fla., was apprehended in Independence on Dec. 13.
According to a news release, more than a dozen officers from Grayson, Carroll and Wythe counties assisted the U.S. Marshal’s Service with apprehending a fugitive wanted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) last Friday.

Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan said intelligence provided by the marshal’s service revealed that Tomas DeJesus Jr., 32, of West Palm Beach was wanted for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and may have been living in Grayson County at a residence on Riding Trail Lane.
Officers cleared the residence on Riding Trail and obtained information that led them to a residence on North Independence Avenue in Independence. Officers went to that residence, where DeJesus was taken into custody without incident.
Officers with the Town of Independence Police Department and the Virginia State Police also assisted.
