UPDATE 4/23/13 — Local authorities have pulled in the FBI and border patrols in their search for a missing 15-year-old teen.
Family members of Desiree Travers believe that she ran away from home April 19 with 22-year-old Carlos Enrique Reyna, a Hispanic male.
"We have notified the FBI and border patrol," said Hillsville Police Chief Greg Bolen in a message to The Gazette. "All applicable agencies have been notified. We are conducting follow ups and running down leads."
"She is possibly in the company of a 22 year old Hispanic male named Enrique Reyna," police say. "Friends of Desiree say that she told them they were going to run away to Mexico."
HILLSVILLE — Authorities on Monday continued to search for a 22-year-old man in connection with the report of a missing 15-year-old teenager, according to Hillsville police and family members of the girl.
Family members reported Desiree Travers as missing since April 19, according to information from the Hillsville Police Department.
Police sent out a missing person alert for the youth, who is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 145 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Authorities followed up that alert with a second “be on the lookout” notice for Carlos Enrique Reyna, a Hispanic male who has black hair and brown eyes.
He is wanted on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to information from police.
Brandi Alexander Harris, Travers’ aunt, said the 15-year-old is not allowed to see anybody or date, including the much older Reyna.
Events lead family members to believe she may have run away.
“The wanted Hispanic male is the same one that we the family believe she is with,” Harris said in a post on The Gazette’s Facebook page. “So, if anyone has any information, they can contact the family or their local police department.”
“We are asking anyone with information to please come forward or call in,” Hillsville Police Department officials have said about the missing teen. “All agencies are running down leads and tips that we have received all day.
“Thank you all for getting the word out about this missing child. Please keep up the good work.”
