Falcons upend Cavaliers in SWD finals

HILLSVILLE –– Abingdon survived a late Carroll County rally and put up 16 points in a frenetic overtime period, upsetting top-seeded Carroll County 75-71 in the Southwest District boys’ tournament championship game Friday night.

Abingdon (18-6) took a 41-35 lead into the fourth quarter before the Cavaliers (22-2) rallied to tie the game at 59-59 by the end of regulation.

The Falcons poured in 16 points in the four-minute overtime, more than it had managed in three of the eight-minute regulation periods.
